Lutyens in Oxfordshire
14 July 2001
The Trust’s visit to Campion Hall and Middleton Park in July was exceptional in more ways than we were prepared for. Both the buildings retained, not only their original fixtures and fittings, but even more remarkable, they still possessed their glory. This is much rarer; due to the ravages of time and uncaring owners; Lutyens buildings often lose some of the artistic passion that Lutyens infused in his creations. Both Campion Hall and Middleton Park have still held on to it, due in this case mostly to sympathetic and enthusiastic owners, to whom we are most grateful for the time they gave us, to share in the pleasure that these two buildings impart. Our thanks go to Fr. Gerard Hughes and Mr. & Mrs. Davenport.
