Visit to Hampstead Garden Suburb

Saturday, 25 October, 2014

Nikolaus Pevsner described Hampstead Garden Suburb as ‘the most nearly perfect example of the unique English invention and speciality, the Garden Suburb’. At its heart is Central Square with its twin churches and Institute (once housed in the building now occupied by Henrietta Barnett School), all planned and designed by Edwin Lutyens from 1906 to 1912, which complement the vernacular cottages of the Artisans’ Quarter designed on a geometrical layout by Raymond Unwin.
