Hertfordshire Houses and Gardens

22 September 2001

When the party assembled on a lovely day at Stevenage, we could not have foreseen that our expectations and hopes for a really interesting day were going to be completed realized. Mervyn Miller led the tour which began at Putteridge Bury (1911 by Sir Ernest George), with its lovely Lutyens/Jekyll garden. After seeing the Lutyens’s cottage at Preston, the group then visited and had an enjoyable lunch at Temple Dinsley, followed by Mervyn’s guided tour of the house and gardens.

Later in the afternoon, the group visited Ashwell Bury – another fascinating study – where we were made most welcome and given a delicious afternoon tea. Mervyn’s excellent tour guide book for a very enjoyable and worthwhile day also constitutes a comprehensive reference work.
